Potholders for PetsCarly Groninga, miniature animal lover that she is, began selling handmade potholders to raise money for the Cedar Bend Humane Society in 2009. Throughout the Spring, she presented Cedar Bend with a total of $571 in five money orders. Thank you for your help! Since Cedar Bend did reach the 80% mark needed to break ground on their new building, Carly has decided to slightly re-direct her efforts. Money raised through this project will now be given to the Waverly, Iowa Animal Shelter--a fully-certified nonprofit organization currently running without a building while providing care to lost or abandoned animals in Bremer County, Iowa. Check out their website: Waverly Shelter Website How can you help? Send a donation of $3 or more (checks or money order written out to Carly Groninga) and we'll send you a potholder and pass on all but $1 of your donation. (That $1 will go only to buy more "loops" to make more potholders for this fundraising project. Mom & Dad are footing the postage bill. Color requests cannot be guaranteed ~~ but we'll try!) Carly is allergic to every cat she meets and lots of dogs, too. But we do have two shelter cats who live in our basement and a hypoallergenic, one-eyed Shih Tzu adopted just this year from Cedar Bend. We also walk dogs at the shelters sometimes and have even gone door-to-door collecting towels and blankets! Your local shelter probably needs this kind of help, too. We also hope you'll consider sending a donation to this project! (Groninga, 1410 Hawthorne Drive, Cedar Falls, Iowa, 50613) Consider adopting a pet from your local shelter!
NEWS UPDATE! Carly was honored this Spring, 2010, as the runner-up for the Kind Kid Award presented by the Humane Society of the United States. Way to go Carly!
Total Raised So Far: $758 (Carly's Goal: $1000) This project started January 12, 2009 (total last updated May 12, 2010)
